José Carlos Palmero Casanova

José Carlos Palmero Casanova began his viola studies with Antonio Cortés in his hometown of Cádiz. In Madrid he earned his bachelor’s degree, and at the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg his master’s degree, as the last student of Wolfram Christ before the latter retired. José Carlos also studied with musicians such as Raphael Sachs, Kim Kashkashian, Hartmut Rohde, and Nobuko Imai.

As principal or assistant principal, he was a member of youth orchestras such as the Orquesta Joven de Andalucía (OJA), the Joven Orquesta Nacional de España (JONDE), and the European Union Youth Orchestra.

José Carlos has worked with ensembles including the Baden-Baden Philharmonie, the Orquesta Nacional de España, and the symphony orchestras of Sevilla and Madrid. He has participated in projects with the Budapest Festival Orchestra and The English Concert. As a passionate chamber musician, he has also been involved in various ensembles. In 2020, he founded the Bahía de Cádiz.

José Carlos studied composition with Francisco Toledo Pica.

After his academy season with the Koninklijk Concertgebouworkest, he will begin as a member of the orchestra Phion.
