Woodcraft is a boundary-pushing string ensemble that lets violin, viola, and cello speak through jazz, groove, improvisation, and vocals. The five musicians are former members of the Haydn Youth String Orchestra. Inspired by Brad Mehldau, Herbie Hancock, the Turtle Island Quartet, Stravinsky, and Shostakovich, the members create a distinctive, fresh sound in which composition and improvisation come together. Through the intimate communication in their playing, their years-long friendship is audible on stage.

They have won prizes at the Dutch Jazz Competition, Keep an Eye, and Jongemakers (Oscar Back), released two albums (Woodcraft, 2023; EQUINOX, 2025), and recently recorded their third album with support from the Kersjes Fund. Their brand-new program can now be heard at this concert!
