Yfynke Hoogeveen

Yfynke Hoogeveen began playing the clarinet at the age of eight. She studied with Reinier Hogerheijde at the Prins Claus Conservatory in Groningen and at the Academy of Arts in Arnhem. In 1998, she obtained her master’s degree in chamber music. In addition to masterclasses with renowned musicians, she studied in the United States during the summers of 2004 and 2008 with Ricardo Morales (Philadelphia Orchestra, Juilliard School of Music).

Yfynke Hoogeveen is best known as a clarinetist with the Gauguin Ensemble, which she co-founded. This well-regarded ensemble is now a trio consisting of Yfynke, Karlien Bartels (cello), and Nata Tsvereli (piano). The Gauguin Ensemble performs in prominent concert series and festivals throughout the Netherlands. Recently, they released a well-received CD titled Color Soni, which was awarded a 10 in the professional magazine Luister and received 5 stars in the Dagblad van het Noorden. Color Soni is regularly broadcast on Radio 4.

In 1996, she co-founded the Gauguin Ensemble with pianist Loes van Ras. As a duo, they held a long-standing presence on various Dutch stages and performed on radio and television. They frequently collaborated with other renowned musicians such as Larissa Groeneveld, Peter Brunt, and Philippe Graffin. Together with Loes van Ras, she recorded the CD Four Movements.

Outside the Gauguin Ensemble, Yfynke has performed with various chamber music and wind ensembles, including groups affiliated with the North Netherlands Orchestra. As a chamber musician, she has toured countries such as Germany, Malta, France, and the Czech Republic, including collaborations with organist Erwin Wiersinga, with whom she has been performing since 2006. Together, they have appeared at several international organ festivals and released a CD featuring transcriptions for clarinet and organ.

She has also contributed to CD recordings of composer Wim Dirriwachter and sisters Sylvia and Irene Maessen. Yfynke maintains a thriving private teaching practice, where she prepares young talents for a variety of conservatories in the Netherlands and internationally. She gives masterclasses and regularly supports wind groups in competitions and performances.
