Xuan Liu

Xuan Liu is from Auckland, New Zealand, and is currently in her third year of the bachelor's program at the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover, where she studies with Professor Bernd Goetzke. She previously studied in New Zealand with Professor Rae de Lisle and Professor Bryan Sayer. In addition, she takes classes in art song accompaniment (Liedbegleitung) with Professor Jan Philip Schulze.

Xuan is a prizewinner of numerous competitions. She won second place at the New Zealand National Piano Competition, first place at the Pacific International Music Competition for Youths, and second place at the Lewis Eady National Piano Competition, as well as receiving the Margarat Doone Piano Sonata Scholarship and the Norah Howell Piano Recital Award.

In 2020, as a member of Trio Achilles, Xuan received the Helen Young Diamond Award at the New Zealand National Chamber Music Contest. Chamber music plays an important role in her musical life, especially in the field of art song accompaniment. Recently, Xuan and mezzo-soprano Luisa Müller were awarded the Aurora Festival Prize at the Groningen Student LiedDuo Competition. As a duo, they regularly perform in recitals throughout Germany and the Netherlands.

Xuan has participated in masterclasses and festivals such as the Whakatipu Music Festival in Queenstown, New Zealand; the Internationale Musiksommer Campus Cleve in Kleve, the Netherlands; and the Talent Music Masters Festival in Brescia, Italy, to name a few. She has received masterclasses from renowned musicians including Marios Papadopoulos, Janina Fialkowska, Kevin Kenner, Grigory Gruzman, Anna Malikova, Teppo Koivisto, among others.

Xuan has been awarded scholarships from the Chiron Foundation, the AIMES Foundation, the Haydn Staples Foundation, and the Dame Malvina Arts Foundation.
