Yung-Hsu Shih

Yung-Hsu Shih, born on March 12, 2000, in Taipei, Taiwan, discovered his passion for the trombone at the age of 12 under the guidance of Mr. Shyanjer Lee. He continued his musical development through high school and completed one year of university studies in Taipei, during which he was awarded first prize twice in the National Taiwan Student Competition.
He later moved to the Netherlands, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Classical Trombone at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, studying with Jörgen van Rijen, Pierre Volders, and Remko de Jager. He went on to complete a Master's degree in Historical Trombone at the same institution, specializing in the sackbut under the mentorship of Joren Elsen.
Yung-Hsu is currently dedicated to researching the trombone across different historical periods, with a primary focus on 16th- and 17th-century instrumental and vocal music. He continues to explore the stylistic and technical aspects of early trombone playing, aiming to deepen his understanding of historically informed performance.
