Andrei Makarov (Groningen, 2002) has been involved with music from a young age. He has been dedicated to the piano since his very first lessons, and his passion has never faded. He feels at home on stage, and performing is one of his greatest joys. In addition to giving concerts as a pianist, he is also enthusiastic about organizing and producing them.
Alongside performing, Andrei also enjoys participating in competitions. In 2015, he won the Princess Christina Competition, and in 2018, he received first prize at the International Steinway Competition. In September 2018, he also represented the Netherlands at the International Steinway Festival in Hamburg. He performs as a soloist, chamber musician, and accompanist in countries including the Netherlands, Germany, Italy, and Armenia.
In 2023, he completed his bachelor’s degree with the highest honors under Nata Tsvereli at the Prince Claus Conservatoire. In October 2023, Andrei began his master’s studies with Enrico Pace and André Gallo at the Accademia Internazionale di Imola “Incontri col Maestro” in Italy. Over the years, Andrei has broadened his horizons by taking masterclasses with renowned pianists such as Jan Wijn, Jean-Claude Van den Eynden, and Enrico Pace.
In recent years, he has given various recitals in the Netherlands and participated in several international festivals and academies, including the Grachtenfestival, Aurora Festival, and the “Accademia Internazionale di Musica di Cagliari.” He has performed with, among others, the North Netherlands Orchestra. In addition to his solo work, he has played in various ensembles and orchestras. He has performed as a soloist in, among others, Beethoven’s First Piano Concerto and Rachmaninoff’s Second Piano Concerto. Furthermore, he is a recipient of a scholarship from the Prins Bernhard Culture Fund (Johan Rasch Fund) and won the “Bruno Solaroli” City of Imola Piano Award.
