Final concert: a romantic night

Lutherse kerk, Groningen
25 July at 22:00 hour
F. Schubert – String quintet D956
F. Mendelssohn-Bartholdy – String quintet no. 2
Franz Schubert's String Quintet is his final instrumental work. It was written two months before his death in the summer of 1828. Initially, it was criticized for its unconventional form, but later it was recognized as one of the pinnacles of the entire chamber music repertoire. It contains deep emotions and moments of transcendental beauty.
This program begins with Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy’s second string quintet from 1845. For him too, it was one of his last works. The main characteristic of the piece is the boundless energy it radiates. A romantic concert by candlelight where you can enjoy two magnificent works, performed in the beautiful Lutherse Kerk.
