Maurice Ravel was born 150 years ago. Alongside Claude Debussy, he grew to become one of the greatest and most renowned French composers. Although Ravel’s musical style is typically French, music from other countries had at least as much influence on his compositions. For example, from birth he developed a love for Spanish music due to his mother’s Basque heritage.
Ravel developed a colorful and almost fairy tale-like musical style. His fascination with the exotic, ancient French music, and the sound world of his colleague Claude Debussy can clearly be heard in his works. In addition to Ravel’s Mother Goose fairy tales, the Piano Trio, and the famous Second Violin Sonata, you can also enjoy the rarely performed songs of his student Maurice Delage.
Before the concert, a guided tour of the Kloostermuseum will be organized, followed by dinner at the restaurant Onder de Linden. This package, including drinks, starts at 3:30 PM at the Kloostermuseum.
