September 12, 1868: “High on the mountain, deep in the valley, I greet you a thousand times!”

In 1853, Johannes Brahms met the Schumann family. The young Brahms played a piano piece by Robert Schumann. Robert and Clara were deeply impressed and immediately recognized Brahms’s immense talent. Brahms maintained a lifelong close friendship with Clara Schumann. Even after the tragic death of Robert Schumann, their bond remained strong. They wrote many letters to each other, in which their musical, artistic, and personal connection is vividly expressed.

This program features works by these three great 19th-century artists. The pieces are interwoven with readings from their letters. This romantic concert takes place in the newly opened Wadden Sea World Heritage Center.

Before the concert, a guided tour of the WEC will be offered, followed by dinner at restaurant Mare. This package, including drinks, begins at 4:45 PM.
