D. Sjostakovitsj – Joodse volkspoëzie

D. Sjostakovitsj – Pianotrio nr. 2

Shostakovich, who died 50 years ago, was convinced of the unifying power of music. He became one of the most important composers of the 20th century thanks to his unique style and, above all, his fifteen groundbreaking symphonies. Throughout his life, he often clashed with the authorities in Moscow. During the Stalinist era, he frequently had to navigate between the demands of the central regime and his own artistic intentions. Only after Stalin's death in 1953 was he able to express himself more freely in his music. A portrait of a unique composer who chose not to flee.

Tonight’s program includes, among other works, the moving Jewish Folk Poetry and the dramatic Piano Trio No. 2.
