St. Magnuskerk, Anloo
17 July at 20:15 hour
G. Oestvolskaja – Clarinet trio
D. Shostakovich – String quartet no. 3
S. Goebaidoelina – Piano quintet
Shostakovich, who passed away 50 years ago, firmly believed in the unifying power of music. He became one of the most important composers of the 20th century thanks to his unique style and, above all, his fifteen groundbreaking symphonies. Throughout his life, he frequently clashed with the authorities in Moscow, often having to navigate between the demands of the central regime and his own artistic desires during the Stalinist era. It was only after Stalin's death in 1953 that he was able to express himself more freely in his music.
This evening, in addition to his 3rd string quartet, works by his students Galina Ustvolskaya and Sofia Gubaidulina—both of whom gained great renown—will also be performed.
This concert is sold out.
